How much do you cost?
That depends on your budget and the scope of the work. I’m happy to work on an hourly rate, a one-off fee, or by commission. Talk to me and we’ll figure it out.
Do you work voluntarily?
I’m happy to volunteer my services for non-profits/charities and emerging productions. In any case, do talk to me and let’s see how we can work this out.
I don’t have money but I can pay you with tickets/freebies/free merch/covering expenses/etc. Is that OK?
That should be fine, but do let me know and we’ll see what is a good tradeoff.
Can you work with children?
I do have an Australian Blue Card which clears me for work with minors, and I have worked with children before (in childcare and festivals). I’m happy to work with kids of any age. I also have Senior First Aid training taken in 2009.
Can you work in adult venues/productions?
I have worked for queer and kinky events, so it’s definitely an option! Asides from burlesque/performance art I’m not sure if I’m up to be an adult performer, but I can definitely help with stage management, event management, organising, merch/bar/tickets, that sort of thing.
Can you work with animals?
I’m not officially trained, but I do like animals and I do tend to get along with domestic pets (dogs, cats, rodents, etc). I wouldn’t recommend hiring me to be an animal trainer or handler; however, I’m happy to assist a qualified trainer, and I’d love to give your kitty some cuddles!
I’m a TV station, radio station, newspaper, film crew, or some other creative production that doesn’t involve the stage. Would you work with us?
Sure – I have experience with TV, radio, print, conferences, and various other non-stage events.
What are you certified for?
I have a certificate in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Senior First Aid. I’m happy to take on other certificates if they are necessary and/or beneficial for the job.
I’m outside Brisbane/Australia. Are you willing to travel?
I’d love to travel! However, I will need my travel & lodging costs covered, and we also need to consider visas – I’m on a Bangladesh passport with Malaysian permanent residency and an Australian bridging visa, which does make things a bit complicated! I don’t need anything fancy like first class – even economy & a host family works great for me.
We’re an outdoors festival that involves camping. Are you up for it?
I have worked at such a festival before (Woodford) and am not new to camping; admittedly I was not adequatedly prepared for Woodford since it was my first time and I had to leave early from illness! I have learnt a lot though and I’m happy to consider it, though I may consider staying in a hostel if the option’s available.
Are you a licensed business?
I do have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and I’m in the process of getting “The Merch Girl” registered as a Business Name in Australia so I can officially send invoices under that name. Currently I invoice under my real name.
Our event is for a specific cultural/political/religious/subcultural group. Is that OK with you?
That really depends on the focus of your group and event. I don’t discriminate and would consider working with people that belong to completely different groups from me; however, I wouldn’t be comfortable working at places that went against my values and ideas. Let’s talk and we’ll see.
I need you to do something that’s not on your Hire lists. Are you up for it?
There’s bound to be plenty of work surrounding a creative production that I haven’t thought of yet! Do get in touch and let’s see if I can be of any help!
Is there anything you won’t do?
Hardcore porn, anything related to drugs and smoking (though I may be ok with being a “cigarette girl”), anything illegal, anything I’m not qualified or adequatedly trained for. There’s bound to be a lot of grey areas though so drop me a line if you’re not sure.
Do you accept every work offer?
Not necessarily – I’ll have to check my schedule and whether I’m well-suited for the role. If I don’t feel like I’ll be a great fit, I’ll endeavour to refer you to someone that suits you better.
Would you be willing to work on retainer?
That sounds great! Let’s get in touch to make sure we’re a good fit! I’m OK with a short trial basis to check this out too.
I want to interview you/feature you in my media product. Can I do so?
Of course! Get in touch – I’d love to chat!
Who made the layout/logo?
The logo is based off a 1933 cover of Portuguese magazine Portugal Feminino illustrated by Américo Amarelhe (1892-1946). It might change soon because I haven’t figured out how to obtain the rights for illustrations in Portugal, especially by deceased artists. I designed the layout in Adobe Photoshop, with feedback from Leah Creates and my sister Mithi, and received awesome help with coding from Michelle Lovi of lip magazine and my boyfriend Mark. It’s a starter layout; if a better one comes along it may change!
I’ve got a question that isn’t answered here.
All right – get in touch with me and I’ll answer it for you.
